Challenge

What do you do when an important exhibitor orders a unique equipment configuration that the venue (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA) and the General Contractor (Shepard Exposition Services) can’t fulfill? You call the experts at Edlen.

Media One, a key exhibitor with SGIA 2017 – also known as Specialty Printing & Imaging Technology Expo – placed an order for 3 each – 480V 3 Phase 30 Amp with transformers stepped down to 380V 3 phase 30 Amp. The show coordinator for Media One was adamant: “My power requirements are non-negotiable…if you cannot supply, I simply cannot exhibit.”

Facing the very real possibility of Media One pulling out of the show, Randy Graham with Shepard Exposition Services placed a call to Jim Ness with Edlen Electrical: “Jim, I need your help urgently!”

Solution

Ness enlisted the expertise of Jennifer Maloney and Rick Bredenberg. Jennifer’s review of the Edlen database confirmed Media One had requested a similar configuration for an earlier SGIA show in Las Vegas. Rick offered this perspective: “380V up to 415V is a European three phase. I just don’t understand why they need 3 individual transformers.” Desiring more information, Rick and Jennifer contacted Media One directly after first obtaining permission from show management. Following the phone consultation, it was determined one transformer would indeed satisfy the exhibitor’s needs…and save them money!

Team Edlen sprang into action, locating an available transformer sitting on the dock at the Broward County Convention Center in South Florida. Jennifer reached out to Edlen’s Orlando office where, from Orlando, Shepard was planning to send a truck with decorating gear to New Orleans within the next day or two. Coordinating the logistics every step of the way, Jennifer made sure the transformer found its way onto the Shepard truck and ultimately installed in Media One’s exhibit.

Result

Media One was ecstatic! SGIA show management, Shepard Exposition Services and Ernest N. Morial Convention Center all looked like heroes. And the team at Edlen Electrical savored the satisfaction of another job well done.
