Cost Saving Tips

  1. Place your electrical order prior to the advance order deadline date. This date is typically 21-30 days prior to the event date.
  2. Don’t under order or over order your power.  The key is to get it correct the first time. Adding power at show site can be 25-50% more expensive.
  3. Do not automatically repeat the previous year’s electrical order if your exhibit booth and layout have not changed. Power options vary in most venues. One venue may only offer a single 20-amp outlet, while others offer less expensive 5, 10 and 15 amp outlets. The same applies to 208-volt outlets.
  4. Pre-wire your exhibit to as few plugs as possible as determined by electrical codes. This will reduce the number of outlets required.
  5. Always provide a detailed electrical booth layout, with dimensions, orientation and a main drop location, in advance to allow the electricians to install the electrical services prior to your arrival. Providing outdated plans, incomplete floor plans or no floor plan at all will delay installation of your booth and add to your labor cost.  If the decorator lays your carpet before the electrical has been installed, you will incur additional costs and delays to have it removed and replaced.
  6. Labor rules vary by venue. Review the labor rules for your show and make sure you are scheduling and budgeting the correct labor to perform the work. Changes on the floor can be costly.
  7. Utilize LED lighting in your exhibit. LED lighting is brighter than incandescent or halogen lights and utilizes much less power. Keep in mind that many convention center do not allow halogen light fixtures.
  8. A credit card is required to have on file prior to getting any work done in your booth. Not having a credit card on file may delay your installation and increase your costs.
  9. Pre-wire any equipment that requires 208V or higher to match the plug configuration of the electrical provider. Many times, we will have an adapter that would eliminate the need to invest in a new plug, so we recommend calling us.

  1. Does power come with the booth space?
    No, unless show management is providing an outlet for each booth space. Check with show management to determine if power is included and how much.
  2. Where is power delivered to my booth space?
    If you have an inline or peninsula booth, your power will be brought to the back of your booth space. If you have an island booth, you will need to send in a floor plan letting us know where you would like your power located. It is either dropped from the ceiling or pulled from the floor depending on the venue.
  3. When I order a 5, 10, 15 or 20-amp outlet, what do I get?
    Each outlet order comes with one place to plug in. We recommend you bring a power strip to provide additional receptacles.
  4. What if I need power in multiple locations?
    A separate outlet must be ordered for each location that requires power. Provide a scaled floor plan with measurements, orientation, outlet locations and a main distribution point
  5. Will my power be in place before I arrive?
    Inline and peninsula booths will find their power at the rear drape line of their booth upon arrival. Island booth power will only be in place if the exhibitor has provided all of the necessary forms and layouts prior to Edlen’s first move-in day.
  6. Where does the power come from – floor or ceiling?
    Each venue is different. Contact your local Edlen office to confirm.
  7. Can I order a 30-amp 120V outlet?
    Yes, but only for a single connection. Call us for a quote.
  8. Can I bring my own power distribution panel?
    No. As the licensed contractor on site, all equipment utilized in the distribution of power must be Edlen’s.
  9. Can I rent Edlen’s power distribution panels?
    No.
  10. What is 24-hour power? Do I need it?
    Power delivered to the booth space is only guaranteed to be on during move-in, show and tear-out hours. 24-hour power is never turned off once it is delivered to the booth space and connected. If your equipment cannot be turned off, such as refrigerators or computer servers, we advise ordering 24-hour power.
  11. How do I order a dedicated power outlet?
    All services 20 amps or greater are considered dedicated.
  12. How do I order 220-230 volt power?
    Order the corresponding 208-volt service and then order a buck and boost transformer to boost your power to 220/230-volt.
  13. What kind of plug configuration will I need for 208 volt or higher services?
    Go to Cost Savings Tips for a list of Edlen’s corresponding plug configurations.
  14. Do I need to send a floor plan indicating where I would like my power delivered?
    If you have an inline or peninsula booth, your power will be brought to the back center of your booth. If you have an island booth, you will need to provide Edlen with a scaled floor plan with measurements, orientation, outlet locations and a main distribution point.

FAQ: Lighting

  1. Can I hang my own lights?
    Exhibitors are allowed to hang their own lights in inline and peninsula booths, however, if labor is hired to set up the booth and lights, Edlen electricians must hang the lights.
  2. What do your lights look like?
    Arm Lights are 1-1/2′ long, adjustable and designed for backwall lighting. Flood Lights come on an 8′ poles with a base and are usually placed at the front corners of the booth. Quartz Lights are stage-style lighting hung from the ceiling.
  3. If I rent booth lights from Edlen, do I need to order power for them?
    No, power is included in cost of light.
  4. If lights are part of my decorator booth package, is power included?
    No, you will need to order power for the lights.
  5. What are overhead quartz lights?
    These are 1000 watt lights that are hung from the ceiling or catwalks. They are used to highlight overhead signs or focus on certain sections of the booth space.

FAQ: Air, Water & Drain

  1. How many machines can I hook up to one compressed airline?
    Additional connections must be ordered for all other air connections within 20 feet of the main connection.
  2. How many hookups do I get with one water line/drain line?
    Additional connections must be ordered for all other water and/or drain connections within 20 feet of the main connection.
  3. Can I get my water filled daily?
    Yes, daily fill is possible for an additional labor charge.
  4. What is CFM?
    CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). This allows us to determine the total air volume required to operate your machine.
  5. How is compressed air or water line delivered to my booth?
    It may come from the floor, ceiling or perimeter wall. Contact your local Edlen office for more info.
  6. How do you drain water out of a booth?
    If drains are not immediately available in the floor, pumps may be required to run drain lines from the ceiling.

  1. If I mail my order before the deadline date, can I get advance order pricing?
    No, the order, floor plan and payment must both be received by the deadline date to receive advance pricing.
  2. Is the cost of an outlet a daily charge?
    No, the cost posted is for the duration of the show.
  3. What happens if I cancel my order?
    Orders cancelled before exhibitor move-in will be refunded after the close of the event. If power has already been delivered to the booth space, the cost of the service is not refunded.
  4. Can you bill me?
    No, all balances must be paid before show closing.
  5. Why do I need a credit card on file?
    As a guarantee of payment for any additional labor, power or material cost incurred at show site.
  6. Why is there a deadline date?
    Deadline dates are created to allow Edlen ample time to plan, determine power loads and provide an on-time delivery of services.
  7. Can I pay by check or wire transfer?
    Yes, complete Edlen’s method of payment form and submit with your order. Edlen still requires a credit card to be on file regardless of method of payment.
  8. Can I order power at show site?
    Yes, you can add to your order or place a new order. Simply come to the Edlen service desk normally located in the decorator service center.

FAQ: Labor

  1. Do I need labor to run electrical cords under my carpet?
    Yes, all electrical distribution under carpets must be performed by an Edlen electrician.
  2. Do I need labor to plug in my own 120 volt equipment? What about 208 volt equipment?
    No, in most locations, exhibitors can plug in their own 120 volt equipment. For any equipment 208 volt or higher, an Edlen electrician must be called to hook it up.
  3. Do I need labor to plug in my lights?
    No, in most locations exhibitors can plug in their own lights. Refer to the published event labor forms for your event.
  4. When does overtime labor begin?
    Straight-time and overtime hours vary in each venue. Refer to the published event labor forms for the corresponding times.
  5. Do I need labor for an inline or peninsula booth?
    Power delivery to inline or peninsula booths only requires labor if power needs to be located in any location other than the rear of the booth space. See published event labor forms for your event information if you have lights to be installed or monitor(s) rented from a third party.
  6. Do I need labor for an island booth?
    All island booths require labor for power distribution.
  7. Can I hardwire any of my equipment at show site?
    No, all electrical wiring at show site must be preformed by Edlen electricians.
